Building a safer, stronger and more connected dog park community.

Dog Park Friends Carmichael is a volunteer committee of the Carmichael Parks Foundation, created to support, advocate for and invest in the Carmichael Dog Park and the people and pups who use it every day.

Our mission centers around three things: Safety. Community. Improvement.

A Safer Dog Park

Safety is one of our biggest priorities. Like any well-loved and heavily used community space, the Carmichael Dog Park has areas where improvements are needed. Dog Park Friends works alongside the Carmichael Recreation and Park District to help identify concerns and advocate for solutions that make the park safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

That can include fencing and gate improvements, better separation between large- and small-dog areas, reducing fence-running, improved signage and visibility, addressing seating and accessibility, and other improvements that help protect both dogs and their humans.

Dog Park Friends gives regular park users an organized way to share concerns, identify recurring issues and be part of making the park better.

Improving the Park, One Paw at a Time

We believe a great dog park should be more than a fenced-in space. It should be a welcoming community amenity where neighbors meet, friendships form and dogs have a safe place to play.

Through fundraising, donations, sponsorships and volunteer projects, Dog Park Friends helps support improvements and amenities at the Carmichael Dog Park. Projects currently include additional seating,  fencing enhancements, improved signage and bullentin boards, dog park tables, potential water amenities,  and other features that make the park safer, more functional and more welcoming.

Bringing Carmichael’s Dog Community Together

Some of the best things about a dog park happen outside the fence, too!

Dog Park Friends creates opportunities for Carmichael’s dog-loving community to meet, volunteer, have a little fun and help support their neighborhood park.

Each year, we help bring Carmichael together for the popular Carmichael Barktober festival, a dog-friendly community celebration featuring local businesses, pet vendors, activities, entertainment and hundreds of four-legged guests.

We also host springtime Paws & Petals, our dog walkathon and costume parade benefiting dog park improvements. The event debuted in 2026 with approximately 85 dogs, eight vendors and strong community support—and we’re excited to continue growing it in the years ahead.

These events aren’t just a good excuse to put a dog in a costume (although we’re very much in favor of that). They’re opportunities to promote responsible pet ownership, connect dog owners with community resources, recruit volunteers and raise support for a better Carmichael Dog Park.

Get Involved 🐶

You don’t have to have a dog to be a Dog Park Friend!

Whether you visit the park every morning, own a local pet-friendly business, want to volunteer at an event, have an idea for an improvement or simply believe Carmichael deserves great public spaces, there’s a place for you.

Become a Dog Park Friend. Volunteer. Sponsor a project. Attend an event. Help us make the Carmichael Dog Park safer, stronger and better—one paw at a time.
